Monitoring the justice system in Tunisia
Our online Observatory of domestic court decisions in women’s rights cases, at http://www.marsadnissa.tn/ , is designed as an interactive, dynamic, and practical tool for research, monitoring, and advocacy on women’s rights. The trilingual database (Arabic, French and English) is designed to contain a host of judicial decisions from local courts across Tunisia.
We are currently expanding participation in the online Observatory through local mobilization and technical training workshops; building the online Observatory content through the creation of local working groups to upload court decisions; holding training workshops with our partners on the gender analysis approach, judicial stereotyping, and international human rights standards; and elaborating and publishing a report on the justice system treatment of women.
This initiative aims to promote innovative and rights-based changes in judicial decisions and policies, including consistent application by the Tunisian courts of international human rights standards, new constitutional provisions on women’s rights, and gender justice principles. It also aims to strengthen systems for comprehensive monitoring, documentation and analysis of local court decisions, as well as for strategic litigation in the courts for women’s rights.
